1. Introduction
Our website, https://leftfield.org.uk, uses cookies and related browser storage technologies. This policy explains what we use, why, and how you can manage it.
2. What are cookies?
A cookie is a small file stored by your browser when you visit a website. It may be returned to our servers or third-party servers on subsequent visits. We also use localStorage, a similar browser-side store that is never transmitted to any server.

Strictly necessary cookies
These are required for the site to function and cannot be disabled. They do not track you for marketing purposes and do not require your consent under UK GDPR.

Bot protection - Cloudflare Turnstile
Our newsletter signup uses Cloudflare Turnstile to check that a submission comes from a person rather than an automated script. It loads only on the Subscribe page.
Turnstile runs its check in the background, so there is usually nothing for you to click. To do this your browser makes a request to Cloudflare, which may log your IP address. Cloudflare describes Turnstile itself as cookieless, but the challenge script it loads may set a short-lived Cloudflare cookie while the check runs - see the table above. It is designed to be privacy-preserving: it is not used for advertising and does not profile you across other websites. See the Cloudflare Privacy Policy for details.
Social media embeds - X (Twitter) & Bluesky
Some articles contain embedded posts from X (formerly Twitter) and/or Bluesky. These embeds are not loaded automatically. They appear as a placeholder until you click "Load post".
When you choose to load an X or Bluesky embed, the relevant script runs and may set cookies on your device. For X, we pass a Do Not Track signal, which limits use of those cookies for personalisation - see the X Privacy Policy for details. Bluesky's embed system has no equivalent signal to send, but per Bluesky's own documentation, its embed responses are generated anonymously under the same policy as its logged-out web interface, with no viewer session or personalisation involved.
Browser localStorage (not cookies)
We store two small preferences in your browser's localStorage - a browser-only store that is never sent to any server:
Cookie notice dismissal - so we don't show this banner on every page after you've acknowledged it.
Social embed consent - so embeds from X or Bluesky load automatically on return visits if you've previously activated them.
You can clear these at any time by clearing your browser's site data for leftfield.org.uk.
4. Managing cookies

5. Newsletter subscription (MailerLite)
If you subscribe on our Subscribe page, the name and email address you provide are sent to MailerLite, the third-party platform we use to send our newsletter. This happens entirely on our server - no MailerLite script, tracking pixel or cookie is loaded in your browser as part of signing up.
MailerLite stores and processes this data as our data processor, on servers based in the EU. MailerLite is a US company and holds certification under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, including its UK Extension, covering data transferred outside the EU. Every newsletter email includes an unsubscribe link. You can also ask us to remove your details at any time by contacting [email protected].
6. Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to access, rectify, erase, and restrict processing of your personal data, to data portability, and to object to its processing. To exercise these rights contact us at [email protected].
